LiveSky is a new plug-in for Starry Night that allows one to drag and drop files, text, or Internet bookmarks onto celestial objects and to call up images from the digitized sky survey using the Internet. LiveSky requires Starry Night 2.1 or later.
Installing LiveSky
The default installation by the Starry Night Deluxe Installer will automatically install LiveSky. You can also install LiveSky by moving the LiveSky plug-in file into the "Plug-ins" folder which is located in the "Starry Night Data" on your hard disk. You must be using Starry Night Deluxe 2.1 or later to use LiveSky.
InternetConfig
Since LiveSky works in concert with the Internet you also need to use "Internet Config" to setup your Internet preferences. (This application is located in the "InternetConfig 1.3" folder on the CD-ROM). Using this program, you will set which Internet browser you use to browse web pages, which email program you use, your return address, etc. If you need any help using or setting up your Internet preferences then you should open the "User Documentation.html" file with your Internet browser.
Micorsoft Internet Explorer
If you do not already have an Internet web browser we have included Microsoft’s Internet Explorer on the Starry Night 2.1 CD-ROM. Use the installer located in the LiveSky folder for installing Internet Explorer.

Digitized Sky Survey Images
If your field of view is 30 arcminutes or less then you can retrieve the digitized sky survey image from the Internet that matches your view by selecting "Digitized Sky Survey" from the LiveSky menu.
Attaching Internet links to objects
Drag an underlined link from your Internet browser into any open Starry Night window. When the object you would like to attach this link to highlights, release the mouse button. To open any link attached to a Starry Night object, click over the object until the contextual menu appears and select the bookmark. Any added links will be listed. You can change the name of the attached bookmark by picking "Edit Bookmarks…" from the contextual popup menu.
Attaching files to objects
Drag any file from the Macintosh desktop onto any celestial objects and an alias to this file will be attached to the object. To open that file simply select the bookmark from the object's contextual popup menu.
Attaching notes to objects
Drag selected text from any program that supports drag and drop onto any object. Once notes are added you can change the note's text by either selecting "Edit Bookmarks…" or by opening the note by picking it from the popup menu.
Editing attachments
You can edit attachments that you have added to objects by choosing "Edit Bookmarks" after selecting the object. This will present a window where you can edit or delete bookmarks.
Markers
Any object that has an attached bookmark will show a small marker. You can choose the colour for these markers (or turn them off completely) from the LiveSky settings dialog.
Exports
You can export bookmarks that you have attached to objects in Starry Night by selecting "Export..." from the LiveSky settings dialog. This will create an html document that lists all attached bookmarks.
